Doeg the Edomite told Saul that he saw David come to Ahimelech son of Ahitub at Nob. Then Saul accused the Ahitub family of conspiring with David. (1 Sa 22: 9-16)

David expressed his antipathy toward a boastful evil man in the three chapters. Doeg thought himself a hero but in fact his behavior offended God. It is easy to equal success to good deeds.

Even when he was in such adversity, his confidence remained because he believed God would be the one who sustained him. Yet, in my view, we ought not to allow our eyes to looking in triumph on our foes. "Man proposes, God disposes." Otherwise, we would be bound with enmity and animosity.

[和平教會 草戊尚土靈修俱樂部] 三年讀經默想與題目 (草戊尚土) 090408有新意見。

When Shimei cursed David, Abishai son of Zeruiah said, "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and cut off his head. (2 Sa 16:9)" Hushai, Jonathan, and Ahimazz helped David cross the Jodan with wisdom and courage, preventing Ahithophel's evil plan from being carried out.

Followers of a leader may show their loyalty in different ways, fierce (the former case) or mild (the latter one). The leader has to mitigate possible side effects out of rash reactions from his/her followers, just as what David responded, "It may be that the Lord will see my distress and repay me with good for the cursing I am receiving today." It is not easy, but it is a lesson that a respectable leader has to learn.
