Thank You, our God, for giving us David's story and Jacob's story which help us and comfort us in our time of suffering. Reading Ps 23, the Pearl of Psalms, makes us feel we are the pearl in God's hand. He will surround us in all circumstances.

Starting from Genesis 9 God's rainbow covenant, through Exodus/Leviticus/Numbers/Deuteronomy God's commandments in the wilderness, finally to Joshua crossing over the Jordan River and winning the Jericho battle to save Rahab (Jos 6:25), God's Ark has always been with His chosen people to protect them, guide them and fight for them. From this long journey, we see God's main purpose: continue from Rahab (Jos 6:25), to Ruth (Ruth 4:13), to Mary (Luke 2:7), born a Savior (Mt 1:23-25) to us. Immanuel, a New Ark, was given for us. This New Ark will also always be with us to protect us, guide us, and fight for us. Jesus will win the battle in Armageddon (Rev 16) and eventually lead us to the New Jerusalem Gates (Rev 21, 22).

苦難，最怕的是失去盼望，有個故事是這樣說的：有人看到一個瘸子，問他是不是會感到痛苦，他回答那人說：跛腳並不痛苦，痛苦的是跛腳卻沒有拐杖。
在今天的經文裡，耶利米雖然對於同胞的遭遇感到十分痛苦，但是他仍然仰望耶和華，想念主的恩典，心裡就有指望，心裡想著：『耶和華是我的分，因此，我要仰望他。凡等候耶和華，心裡尋求他的，耶和華必施恩給他。』
但願主憐憫仍在苦難中的人，讓他們不要看到自己失去的，讓他們感謝目前擁有的，對於未來仍充滿盼望，每個早晨都是嶄新的一天。

「活人因自己的罪受罰，為何發怨言呢？我們當深深考察自己的行為，再歸向耶和華。我們當誠心向天上的神舉手禱告。」3:39-41
當遭遇苦難的時候，應當先省察自己在何處得罪神，悔改、懇求主的赦免與搭救。若實在想不出來，聖靈也沒有責備我們的意思，那就以此自勉：「人在幼年負軛，這原是好的。他當獨坐無言，因為這是耶和華加在他身上的。」3:27-28
不過，這些是要用在自己身上，而不是急促地去要求在苦難中的人悔改。不僅有失憐憫，可能反而加重了對方身上的軛。
耶利米在自己和民族的苦難中：「我想起這事，心裡就有指望。我們不致消滅，是出於耶和華諸般的慈愛；是因他的憐憫不致斷絕。每早晨，這都是新的；你的誠實極其廣大！我心裡說：耶和華是我的分，因此，我要仰望他。凡等候耶和華，心裡尋求他的，耶和華必施恩給他。」3:21-25
求神幫助我，"太平時期"就在心中囤積上帝的應許，好讓我在遭遇人生波折、動亂的時候，拿出來運用，那是任何人或事所奪不去的平安與盼望！阿們！

『耶和華啊，這要到幾時呢？你要將自己隱藏到永遠嗎？』
我想，當一個基督徒開始對神失去信心時，大概也會埋怨神，為什麼禱告還未能看到神的恩典，為什麼上帝還沒有出現呢？仇敵正在歡喜，鄰邦也來羞辱我，上帝啊，您的慈愛還在嗎？
或許，每個基督徒都會經歷屬靈上的死蔭幽谷，但是在今天的經文裡，上帝仍給我們應許：『只是我必不將我的慈愛全然收回，也必不叫我的信實廢棄。』
但願主憐憫我，當我感受不到您的慈愛時，仍給我盼望，讓我明白您的教導，再次抱住您的應許，安靜等待您的降臨。

"Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him. Let him bury his face in the dust—there may yet be hope. Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him, and let him be filled with disgrace"(La 3:28-30).
"Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. Let us lift up our hearts and our hands to God in heaven, and say: 'We have sinned and rebelled and you have not forgiven'" (40-42).
The Lord would like us to contemplate what we really want, to humble ourselves, to overcome our weak spots, and to live with confidence and patience. He has prepared for us short-term and long-term lessons. Am I following Him?

God made special promises to David (2Sa 7:12-17). The important promise is that someone from David's family would always be king. Ethan wrote Psalm 89 many years after this. He called it a maskil, a psalm that teaches us something.
In the psalm, Ethan sang about a problem. God had promised that there would always be a king in David's family. He lamented the defeat of the Davidic king, to whom God promised kingship as enduring as the heavens (Ps 89:2-5).
Since the defeat of the king called into question God's promise, Ethan ardently prayed God to be faithful to the original promise to David (Ps 89:39-52).
