When answering for himself, Paul was rigid and uncompromising. Even faced with oppression and opposition, he showed no fear in defending for justice and righteousness.
"For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: …" (Ac 25:11). This claim let Festus know that Paul was not a person who was afraid of death, but a person who did not want to die for wild accusation. "I refuse not to die" instead of "I refuse to die"… How striking an appeal is!

Paul defended himself: "I have done nothing wrong against the Law of Jews or against the Temple or against the Roman Emperor." And he said, "I am standing before the Emperor's own judgment court, where I should be tried."
Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

巡撫腓力斯的為人處世和今天的的政客的沒有兩樣，貪官污吏，居高位，為討好猶太人的公會的祭司長和法利賽人，寧可犧生那謝少數對自己無利/無益的人，而不願得罪那些有影響力的多數人。為了要鞏固自己的地位，循私利己。這種自私自利，貪婪陰險，喜愛用人的方法來辦事，用權勢來壓人，沾沾自喜，這種不正不義的本性表現無疑。對不僅為官的，為主管的，更對每一位在教會或機構裡担任屬靈的領導者也是一樣。上帝把我們擺在一個醒目的位置，為的是要牧養群羊，做群羊的榜樣。身為牧長者要更加謹慎，我們的一舉一動，在生活中要有基督的樣式，不要以為佔了高位，就認可以為所欲為，這樣就和腓力斯沒有區別；弟兄姐妹的眼光是雪亮的，主都知道。求主幫助我們，生活要有見證，靠主耶穌基督來過得勝的生活。感謝神！今天這段經文是對我自己是一個很好的提醒。

Felix was hoping that Paul would give him some money, so he would call for Paul often. After two years had passed, but he wanted to gain favor with Jews; he still left Paul in prison.
Felix doesn't have a pure heart before God and people, so he can not see God.

The following night the Lord stood by him and said, "Take courage, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must bear witness also at Rome."

耶路撒冷的猶太人認為：保羅在各處教訓眾人， 不遵守猶太人律例和典章（糟踐希伯來人的律法）。他又帶著未受割禮且不潔淨的外邦人，即非猶太人（希利尼人）進聖殿，污穢了聖地，這是在猶太人的傳統裡所不容許的，且不好的示範，必須隔除。（使徒行傳 21:28）
主站在保羅旁邊，說：「放心吧！你怎樣在耶路撒冷為我作見證，也必怎樣在羅馬為我作見證。」(使徒行傳 23:11)。 顯然上帝允許這個事件發生，同時上帝且與保羅同在，保守他，賜給他聰明智慧，知道如何說話，並勇敢地站在耶路撒冷的公會及眾人面前為主作見證。
