Judas betrayed Jesus to earn unrighteous money. Probably he did not believe in the mission that Jesus was engaged in or he no longer regarded Jesus as the one chosen by God. Either way Judas must be frightened by what Jesus said during the supper, "But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table." (Lu 22:21) This shows that nothing can be unattended to by the Almighty Lord.

Even though Jesus was faced with adversaries, He still kept strengthening His followers' confidence by praying for them. "But I have prayed for you Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." (Lu 22: 32) If Judas were still reflective, he should have repented and submitted to his brothers out of reverence for Jesus. Then the old would have been gone; the new would have come!
