Do not do to others what you do not want others to do to you. I think that's what God taught the Israelites in how to treat the disadvantaged minorities. For example, "Do not mistreat or oppress an alien since the Israelites used to be aliens. Clothing was rare at that time so it should be returned by sunset" Ex (22:21-27).

God always shows mercy to those in need. That's what we should emulate, not because God's anger will be aroused if we don't, but because God has been treating us with His love and compassion.
