The public had different opinions about Jesus (Joh 7:12-43). Some said he was a good man (12). Others thought he deceived people (12). Still others said He was demon-possessed (20). Some called Him the Christ (26) and some the prophet (40).

Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about Him since those who publicly supported Him would be put out of synagogue, a very serious punishment for the Jews.

Besides, these people did not seek the truth themselves, just parroting what they heard. Yet truth will out. Those who are willing to seek it will definitely find it.
