The children of Abraham answered Jesus, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we should be set free? (Joh 8:33)" We can learn from this verse that the children of Abraham were talking about "physical freedom" instead of "spiritual freedom."

That's why Jesus further put, "Everyone who sins is a slave to sin. (Joh 8:34)" In addition, the only one who can set people free is Jesus: " So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (Joh 8:36)."

He is where the truth derives from, the perfect standard of judging right from wrong. He saves us from the consequences of sinning, directing us the road to eternity. Thus, what Jesus gives us is not the freedom of relishing ourselves but that of being with God.
