Pilate said, "Do you refuse to speak to me? Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you? (Joh 19:10)" Pilate must have been overwhelmed and perplexed by Jesus' irresistance to the coming trial. Jesus had been calm and composed since He knew God's plan.

In contrast, Pilate compromised for the purpose of accommodating to the situation or maintaining his own interests. According to Jas (4:17), "Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins." With God's help, may I remain conscientious without concession when I have to make a tough decision.
