The ban of not eating blood could be traced back to Noah's age (Ge 9:4). Bllod symbolized the lives of wild animals, which shed their blood to sacrifice for humans.

Besides, the Lord protected His people from being infected by diseases because many serious diseases were derived from blood. The Jewish were thus very serious about this ban. No owonder they detested Jesus when they heard Him say, "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I wil raise him up at the last day."
