The symbolism of the east gate signifies that the glory's departure would occur if the people continued to stray from God's ways. These leaders had plotted evil and given false counsel. They were complacent and apathetic, believing their own thoughts instead of the truth.

These leaders said, "The city is a cooking pot, and we are the meat within it"(Eze 11:3). The Lord has mercy. Ezekiel was told to remind these leaders that their actions were not hidden from God (11:5-6). Theses leaders had exchanged the righteous statutes of God for idolatry and murder of the inhabitants with their schemes. Yet, a situation without the Lord will never be stable.
