Some Jews and Greeks made profits by driving evil spirits and engaging in witchcraft (Ac 19:18-19). The seven sons of Sceva were attracted by what Paul preached and would like to imitate his act. Yet the force that drove Paul came from the Holy Spirit.

They preached in the name of Jesus but didn't know who He was. In fact, the ability to change people is derived from Jesus Christ not from whoever just calls His name. The Lord exerts His power by means of the one He chooses.
