Psalm 35 & 100 are both concerned with David's calling the Lord to arise and come to his aid. Though David wished his enemies to fall into the pit, to their ruin, he did not claim that he would take revenge by himself. Instead, he offered suggestions. After all, it's His to revenge; He will repay"(Ro 13:19).

Besides, these exaggerated expressions probably aim to inspire the suffering to stand firm and fight against the evil. Not everyone experiences what cruelty is but that might be what others go through every day. Thus, I can feel David's desperate hope for seeking justice from God.
