"If after all this you will not listen to me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over"(Le 26:18). The Lord preached the consequences of the sins for the purpose of leading the Israelites to repent.

He later showed His tenderness by claiming, "But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their fathers…I will remember my covenant… and I will remember the land….when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them. I am the Lord their God"(40-44).

If we can realize the Lord's intention of putting people into virtue, we will remind ourselves to be on the right track instead of going against Him once in a while.
