Israelites always proudly claimed that they were descendants of Isaac. Yet, God's sovereign choice is not by works but by Him who calls.

The choice stands that God has absolute sovereignty to save us according to His righteousness and compassion, but not based on our merits or strengths. "Therefore, God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden" (Ro 9:18).
