"…I am lowly and despised…" (141)
"Troubles and distress have come upon me,…" (143)
"Many are the foes who persecute me,…"(157)

The poet felt he was oppressed or treated unfairly by his foes. He looked on them with loathing (158) and his zeal wore his out (139) since the enemies ignored the Lord's words.

To me, the poet could not take the distress lightly and thus I can learn that it is hard to cultivate the attitude described in Ro (12:14): "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse."
