The Kohathites took care of the most holy things in the Tent of Meeting (Nu 4:4). Only the Levites could carry the ark of the Testimony (4:2). The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, "The Kohathite tribal clans must not go in to look at the holy tings, even for a moment, or they would die" (4:20).

In addition, God struck Uzzah down because of his irreverent act though we knew he intended to protect the ark (2Sa 6:6-7). Even out of good will, God punishes those who disobey His creeds and laws. Think twice before we leap. God attends to everything.
