The Lord says, "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves" (Ro 12:10). The three chiefs of David's might men followed David's command, going draw water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem for him. They demonstrated the spirit of brotherhood.

David, though keenly longing for the drink of water, poured it out before the Lord. He didn't take the three chiefs' offering as his own reward but thought only God deserves it. The pious attitude of David and these three chiefs is worth our learning.
