Uzzah's death from his careless touching the ark shows us the two facets of the Lord. On the one hand, He is merciful. The Lord blessed Obed-Edom's household and offered everything he needed. On the other hand, He has full righteousness. Punishment would be imposed upon those who don't follow the command in accordance with the word of the Lord.

We may sometimes wonder why the Lord's anger flared up at such a trivial matter, but we will never thoroughly understand Him. It's better to be obedient first as David did. He took the ark aside to the house of Obed-Edom (1Ch 13:13) before he thought of a more comprehensive plan.
