The Lord says that the priests, who are Levites and descendants of Zadok and who faithfully carried out the duties of His sanctuary when the Israelites went astray from Him, are to come before Him to offer sacrifices of fat and blood. They are to come near His table to minister before Him and perform His service (Ez 44: 15-16).

On the other hand, for the Levites who went far from Him when Israel went astray and who wandered from Him after their idols must bear the consequences of their sin (44: 10). They must bear the shame of their detestable practices, and the Lord put them in charge of the duties of the temple and all the work that is to be done in it.

Thus, everyone who has done something detestable against the Lord must pay for it and face the consequence of the sin. Though he/she may confess and repent, the consequence remains. But we can learn that God is forgiving. He still put the sinful ones in charge of important duties in the temple instead of forsaking them.
