The Lord discourages adultery since the speech of an adulteress is bitter and sharp. She gives no thought to the way of life but leads life to the grave (Pr 5:3-8). If a man falls into the sin, the evil deeds of a wicked person ensnare him. He will die for lack of discipline (5:22-23).

The Lord emphasizes the importance of discipline (5:10-14), while most of us won't feel regret until our flesh and body are spent. The warning against adultery enables us to examine all our paths lest we go astray by our own great folly.
