We should not be arrogant for haughty eyes and a proud heart-- the tillage of the wicked is sin (Pr 21:4). Fortune ought not be made by a lying tongue (5). In addition, one is advised to pay attention to his tongue since quarreling has to be avoided (9, 23).
A person is required to cultivate the virtue of empathy so that his ear to the cry and call of the needed will not be shut (13). Loving pleasure brings about suffering (17). If one isn't righteous, he may serve as ransom for the just (18).
Keep industrious; otherwise, the sluggard's propensity slays the lazy person (25). Don't be too greedy or be consumed with avarice all the day (26). Besides, never serve as a false witness because it will lead to perishing (28).
If one wants to find life and honor, pursue justice and kindness and then sin will not knock his door.

Hezekiah did whatever was good in the eye of the Lord (Ch2 30:9, 10, 14, 15-20, 23; 31:1, 3). Faced with the invasion of Assyria, he tried his best to deal with the crisis so he won the battle with his faith in God (32: 7-8).
Yet humanity led him to be a proud leader. When he was ill, he didn't respond to the kindness a miraculous sign showed him; therefore, the Lord's wrath was on him and on Judah and Jerusalem. We should be ready to be tested by the Lord. He cares a lot about whether we are closely following Him.

"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him."
Jesus Christ became a man into the world is like a king became a normal one into the enemy area to save his people. He needs to let his people to understand this mission. And those people who heard this information also need to tell to others. It is dangerous and will have a lot of fights with enemy. However, he wants to save all of his people by suffering those difficulties. May Lord help me to follow you with a grateful mind.

耶穌道成肉身，所以他能體會我們的軟弱，「他自己既然被試探而受苦，就能搭救被試探的人。」(2:18)

"…he is able to help those who are being tempted"(Heb 2:18). Thus, we should no longer be slaves to sin because whoever has died has been freed from sin.
His death could destroy anyone who holds the power of death, the devil. He could free those who are held in slavery by their fear of death. No wonder it is said, "Death through Adam, life through Christ."

"…for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin, both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy …"(Nu 27:14). Moses had no idea that he was to blame for his being forbidden to cross the Jordan and enter the good land.
We tend to owe our mistakes to others and can't see our blind spots. Even as a capable and an anointed leader like Moses, he thought he was a victim under the rebellion of the Israelites. This reminds us not to accuse someone of his/her faults that we have ourselves.

關於末世預言的經文，我總覺得很困難，因為不知道是地理上的錫安山、耶路撒冷，或是該按靈義解讀。但，無論如何「到那時候，凡求告耶和華名的就必得救」(2:32)是神對我們的應許，即便福音朋友無法馬上決定信主，但總要讓他們知道可以「求告主」。

Sometimes we always wear a pair of colorful glasses to see this world. We think rich guys are better than poor guys. So, it is not easy to accept those homeless people becomes our brothers in Jesus. But, it is very easy to accept those rich people to become our brothers. That is our world. Paul understood this, and he also understood Philemon still lived in this world. So, he wants Philemon to take off this pair of colorful glasses. And he wants Philemon to be free from this world. It is intresting that Paul was not free in the jail but he is real free in his mind. And Philemon was not in the jail but his mind was in the jail. May Lord free my mind to see the truth.

The financial advice the Lord gives us is that we should not put up security for others (Pr 6:1; 11:15; 17:18; 19:19; 20:16; 22:26-27). These verses are not against generosity, but against overextending one's financial resources and acting in irresponsible ways that could lead to misfortune. God wants us to assist the needy but to cover the costs of every unwise commitment indeed suffers us.
Whether it is wise or safe to co-sign a loan for a relative or trusted friend is a tough decision. We need to be discerning, commit the situation to prayer, and follow the Lord's leading.

Hezekiah sent word to all Israel and Judah and also wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, inviting them to celebrate the Passover to the Lord. He was devoted to enhancing the spiritual life of his people by telling them not to be stiff-necked as their fathers were.
However, the people in Ephraim and Manasseh, as far as Zebulun scorned and ridiculed about the command. Hezekiah was not discouraged by the lukewarm responses but still prayed for the Lord to pardon them. As a leader, he didn't resort to a severe way to force them, which showed his pleasant and gracious disposition.

Paul was an apostle and a senior. He should have asked Philemon to treat the fleeing slave with kindness, yet he hoped that Philemon did it out of his spontaneity. Paul said, "…although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, yet I appeal to you on the basis of love"(Phm 8-9). He set a good example in dealing with the argument between Christians.
After Onesimus became a Christian, his relationship with Philemon changed. They were not a master and a slave but brothers. Thus, they were equal in the Lord. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus"(Ga 3:28). How we treat brothers and sisters reflects what attitude we hold toward the Lord.

讀腓利門書最大的感受是保羅與收到他信的主內同伴之間的連結，在主裡不因保羅入監而斷絕，保羅仍然能對他們有教導、有影響力。
保羅稱阿尼西母為「在捆鎖中所生的兒子」，希望腓利門不計過往地接納他，保羅很強調信仰在生活中的實踐。

Moses is a great man, but still a man. He cannot control his emotion to follow God's will that caused him cannot enter the promised land. Three things I learnt from this event, one is "no one is perfect", another is "EQ is very important" and the last one is "God's will is absolute".

Moses didn't speak to the rock for water but struck the rock twice with his staff. As a leader, he was not a faithful follower of the Lord and did not honor Him as holy in the sight of the Israelites.
That's why God punished him so hard that he was forbidden to cross the Jordan. The Lord cares a lot about whether we trust in Him enough so we should look into our heart all the time.

「那時，我懇求耶和華說：『...求你容我過去，看約旦河那邊的美地...』但耶和華因你們的緣故向我發怒，不應允我，對我說：『罷了！你不要向我再題這事。』」3:23-26
此時摩西說的輕描淡寫，其實應該是很"搥心肝"的吧！神對祂越是看重的僕人，越嚴格。如果我們覺得神管我們很嚴，應該感謝領受，但要像摩西這樣毫不"心懷不平"地順服神，真的很不容易哩！

"Let your hearts be broken, and not your clothing, and come back to the Lord your God: for he is full of grace and pity, slow to be angry and great in mercy, ready to be turned from his purpose of punishment."
I think "that day" is the day to decide one man to belong love or without love. If the man cannot break his heart and back to love, that day will be dark with lots of army covering the mountains. If the man can return to Lord with love, the promise from Lord is full of grace and pity. May Lord keep my will to follow You without any doubt.

「哀哉！耶和華的日子臨近了。這日來到，好像毀滅從全能者來到。糧食不是在我們眼前斷絕了嗎？歡喜快樂不是從我們神的殿中止息了嗎？穀種在土塊下朽爛；倉也荒涼，廩也破壞；因為五穀枯乾了。」(1:15-17)
世界上天災頻傳，好像我們習慣以「不要稱之為上帝的審判」較"人道"的說法來面對，但讀舊約時，很難把「災難」與「上帝的管教」分離，「你們要撕裂心腸，不撕裂衣服。歸向耶和華─你們的神；因為他有恩典，有憐憫，不輕易發怒，有豐盛的慈愛，並且後悔不降所說的災。」(2:13)
許多天災是人禍釀成的，透過今天的經文來看世界，還是不會指著災民說：「要悔改」，但我們是應該以「撕裂心腸、歸向耶和華我們的神」的態度自處於末後的世代。

"Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool."
What is the definition of rich? more money? expensive house? or luxury life? I think the definition of rich is depend on your faith. From today's devotion, one poor man who walking in the integrity is better than the rich man. I think walking on Lord's road is not a way to be rich but a way to be better than rich.

What is the definition of rich? more money? expensive house? or luxury life? I think the definition of rich is depend on your faith. From today's devotion, one poor man who walking in the integrity is better than the rich man. I think walking on Lord's road is not a way to be rich but a way to be better than rich.

That's why the Lord came to Joel, asking him to call for the repentance of people in Judah. God will definitely repay the sinners a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Yet as long as the rebellions can return to the Lord, He may turn and have pity and leave behind a blessing (2:14).

That is, whether one is rich or not is not determined by the wealth but by the knowledge he has. Above all, whoever can listen to advice and accept instruction, he is wealthy in the eyes of the Lord.

Dear All, Peng An,
It is not easy to understand why the godly father cannot have a godly son. Sometimes, we also found one pastor's son become a criminal. I think the problem may be from the problem relationship. If we have a close relationship with God, we should also have a close relationship with our children. If we have learnt a lot from God, our children should also can learn a lot from us.
However, it is also not easy to understand the opposite result: one bad father can have a godly son. Sometimes, we also can find one criminal's son become a pastor. I think the problem should be from the re-birth. If God can chose us (a sin man) to be His Son, we should agree to accept the re-birth possiblity for others.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."
I think if God is our father, then the scripture is like HIS letters to us. By those letters, we can understand what HE wants us to be and what HE wants us not to be. Eventually, HE wants to save us from the internal war with HIS love. May Lord help me to keep your words in my mind.

God allows people to decide whether to follow Him at their free will. Jotham and Hezekiah did what the right in the eyes of the Lord, so they were blessed. Yet, Ahaz was deserted and denied by the Lord. Therefore, God is good to those whose hope is in Him. How one's ancestors do to the Lord may make no difference in His grace and salvation.

Sometimes, the elder people like to claim he is stronger than young people. However, I think the different personalities come from different environment, but not from age. Sometimes, the elder people can have more experiences for something which can help them have courage to do it. But, it still needs more time for young people to experience it. Sometimes, the elder people can have more experiences for something which can help them have courage to do it. But, it still needs more time for young people to experience it. It needs to take a long time to make someone to really believe one thing from his mind. Especially, he did not believe it in the beginning. God can spend 40 years for Israel people to believe his promise. The problem is how long I can stand to wait for God? If I cannot find the promise land, I will give up or keep believing this promise? Besides, Timothy had to learn to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus (2:1). He might not be able to endure hardship like a good soldier of Christ Jesus, so Paul encouraged him to be faithful and to have a clear conscience (1:3).

雅各為要求祝福而"纏"住神，他得到了；亞伯拉罕為了羅得與神較力，羅得與家人得救了；迦南的婦人為了女兒，來與耶穌較力，她女兒得了醫治。
耶穌在客西馬尼園與神較力，耶穌選擇"棄權"，為要成全神的旨意。

求主幫助我，能靠著聖靈、靠著神話語的光照，省察到自己內心的渣滓；求主幫助我，渴慕完全，以致在神所許可的熬煉中，因著盼望而忍受得住。

The Lord tests our heart. There may be a little while when we have to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These trials are to prove whether our faith is of greater worth than gold.
Besides, we should learn to rejoice in our sufferings because "suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope"(Ro 5:3-4).

In the beginning of Joash's time, he led well; particularly, he put the temple in good repair. In the latter end of his time, after Jehoiada's death, he apostatized from God, and his apostasy was his ruin. He set up the worship of Baal again.
The judgments of God then came upon him for it. The Syrians invaded him. He was struck with diseases. His own servants conspired against and slew him. Since he was infamous, he was not buried in the burying-place of the kings. The termination of his reign might be a consequence of his disloyalty to the Lord.
