Dear all, Peng An,
Sometimes we just could not understand the reason why God allowed such astrocities to happen in history or in our lives.
This was a tragedy in Israel history that eleven tribes had to resolve to use such extreme means to solve the issue against another tribe. Bible just recorded this tragedy for us to read. Personally I would treat this section of story as descriptive, rather than prescriptive.
