The Lord rules that no descendant of Aaron the priest who has any defect is to come near to present the offerings made to the Lord by fire, but he may eat the most holy off do his God (Le 21: 21-22).

This should not be a discrimination against the deformed. The deformed are still sheltered and provided sufficiently. Yet, to emphasize the holiness of the duty as a priest, the rule is set accordingly.
