Paul maintained that when there was a dispute among believers, it was not appropriate to file lawsuits to deal with it.

The first reason is that if the judges are unbelievers, they will not understand or abide by the values and standards set for believers. Next, resorting to lawsuits is an act of revenge. An eye for an eye ends up making the whole world blind. Lastly, lawsuits will leave unbelievers a negative impression on the church. They will tend to the problems instead of the benefits of the church.
